A beach for all

The most inclusive beach of Portugal in 2017, was the Ouro beach in the village of Sesimbra.

Renowned as one of the safest in the country, with a long sandy shore and calm waters, the Ouro beach is currently ranked top of the list in beaches with the best conditions for visitors with reduced mobility. A recognition for the commitment shown by the City Council in the implementation and promotion of the Accessible Beach Programme - Beach for All, which promotes equal opportunities and accessibility in bathing areas.

The improvement of the comfort zone, the construction of a new walkway, the existence of a network of amphibious chairs (tiralôs) on the beach, involving beach concessionaires, the creation of an access corridor to the sea for amphibious chairs, the personalized user support and information are some of the attractions of this beach, which has been hoisting the Accessible Beach Award since 2006.

The Meco beach, on the west coast, is also an accessible beach since 2014, fulfilling all the accessibility criteria for users with reduced mobility.
